what is artificial intelligence? Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is a technology that allows machines to carry out actions without being programmed explicitly. In other words, what would have been done by a human brain can now be done by a machine.
The idea of AI as we know it today has been around since the early days of computing. One of the most famous inventors of the computer, Alan Turing, created what is now known as a Turing test to differentiate between what is human and what is not. In this test, a machine has to pass itself off as being human to truly be deemed intelligent.
In 1950, AI pioneer Herbert Simon predicted that by 1967, “machines would be capable of remaining enslaved to an abundance of work.” Known as the father of artificial intelligence, Simon was very pessimistic about what AI could achieve.
He would later reveal his concerns over what he described as the “intelligence explosion,”, wherein machines surpassed human abilities to the point where people had no choice but to bow down before them. This theory has resurfaced many times over the years.
In 1956, AI pioneer Frank Rosenblatt created what is now known as a neural network—a computer system based on how the human brain works—to create what he called “artificial neurons.”. These work together to create what we know today as a machine learning algorithm – a set of mathematical rules that can analyse data and make decisions when exposed to it.

The birth of what we know today as AI is usually attributed to the 1956 Dartmouth Workshop in New Hampshire, where a group of scientists came together and laid down all the key concepts that would later create what we understand as an artificial intelligence system today.
Then, in 1958, computer scientist John McCarthy coined what we know today as the term “artificial intelligence.” LISP, or lambda calculus with extensions, is an artificial intelligence programming language that John McCarthy created.
In 1965, the first robot was unveiled to the world at Carnegie Mellon University by AI pioneer and robotics Professor Herbert A. Simon. Named “Shakey”, this early robot could think for itself using what was then known as an “artificial intelligence” computer system.
At the time, there were very few computers that could process information in this way, but today we live in what is known as the fourth industrial revolution, where all sorts of devices are connected to what is called “the Internet of Things,”, meaning they can share data and communicate with each other in what is known as machine to machine communication.
A study carried out by Tractica found that the worldwide AI market will grow massively in the next eight years, seeing what would be a $12 billion industry turn into one worth $127 billion by 2025.
And all this has led what is known today as “futurists” to believe that we might one day be able to talk about or even marry what we know today as robots.
But what is the real future of artificial intelligence? Will it come and take over what we know today as mankind, leaving us with no other choice but to bow down before it, as was predicted by Alan Turing in his 1950 paper?
Or what about what Professor Stephen Hawking said when he warned what we know today as mankind about what could become a “dangerous” AI that could spell out the end of what we know today as life on Earth? Is there even any truth behind these theories? It’s been impossible to tell until now.
“I do not doubt that in the future, what we know today as mankind will be able to create what they call a superintelligence,” “But this future is a long way away from what we know today.”
Yet what is the future of what we know today as artificial intelligence?
Istvan explained. “I believe that what will happen in the next 20 years is not going to be what people call a singularity,” This idea is that at some point, machines will get so intelligent they’ll transcend humans, and then what we know today as mankind will be left in the dust. It’s not going to happen like that. “
However, what is the real future of what we know today as AI? Istvan said it depends on what people want out of what is known these days as “artificial intelligence.”.
“It depends on what people want out of what they call AI,” he said. If what we know today as the government, or what we would otherwise know as corporations, wanted to turn it in the direction of something that is normally called good for mankind, then I think what will happen is that when they create these super-intelligent, what would otherwise be known as artificial intelligence systems, what we know today as the United Nations wants to create? What does the World Health Organization want AI to look like, and what does every world government want AI to look like?
“I think if they told it to make everybody happy and healthy and make society better, then what will happen is that what people call that kind of AI will turn out to be what they would otherwise call an optimist or what is known as a utopian society.”
However, Istvan said what we will see in the coming years and decades is not what some people might hope for.
“I think what you would know today as what is called the first industrial revolution, what has happened, what will continue to happen, what will be what people call a polarizing effect,” he said. “What will happen is, if I’m right, that what is known as corporations are going to create AI systems that look like what they want them to look like.
So what they call, you know, large corporations owned by wealthy people, what will happen is that they will need what you would call worker bees to do what is known as physical labour, so they want AI to be efficient. So when it comes down to things like what are today’s human workers, I think there’s what is called “a push towards what you would call automation.”
“I think what will happen is that what is known as the 2 percent of society, rich people, who are known today as wealthy CEOs, want to own what you call most of all that physical property.
AI Approaches and Concepts
Turing wrote a now-famous paper in 1950 titled ” Computing Machinery and Intelligence,” which outlined the Turing Test (simply referred to as the AI Test), where a machine must be able to mimic human communication long enough for an evaluator to determine if it is, indeed, thinking.
The test had two variations: in one scenario, a human must be able to hold a conversation with the AI system long enough to determine which of two human contestants is on the other end; in another, an AI system will ask written questions of one or more humans on subjects like math, science, and history.
Despite its simplicity (or maybe because of it), Turing’s AI Test was not an original idea in the AI community. AI researchers were already talking about AI tests when they met at Dartmouth in 1956, and many AI pioneers had developed ideas for their own AI tests long before Turing brought his vision to light.
What made Turing’s paper so special is that it acted as a catalyst for AI research. It was written at the right time and place, just after AI research had begun in earnest but before AI systems were advanced enough to compete against more challenging foes. 5g
Turing brought the AI Test to their attention just when AI researchers needed a way of benchmarking their success more than anything else. Within two years of publication, AI researchers had built an AI system that could pass one variation of the AI test.
The AI Test has been a source of controversy ever since. Turing’s original paper was interesting in that it outlined a machine capable of sentient thought, but did not specify which AI test would validate such a claim. Turing seemed to have different AI tests in mind at different times, and some AI researchers argue there is no AI test.
We will explore these issues here, and along the way, we’ll introduce some of AI history’s more interesting AI tests that may or may not have been proposed by Turing himself.
There are many AI tests in use today. The AI test most associated with AI is called the Turing Test, which is a test of AI through conversation.
The AI Test requires a computer program to converse with a human so that the human cannot distinguish which subject is being discussed by the AI system or another human. The AI Test was first proposed by Alan Turing in 1950, at the time of AI’s inception, but it had been proposed many times before Turing came along.
The Four Types of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of science that aims to study programming techniques that enable machines to mimic human intelligence. The ultimate goal of AI research is the development of technology that allows for machines that can think like humans, or better understand how the human mind works.
The problem with this goal is that there are different ways of measuring how intelligent something (or someone) is. The most commonly used way to measure intelligence is the intelligence quotient (IQ). The IQ measures one’s ability to think rationally and make connections between concepts, but it does not consider creativity or emotional intelligence.
The Four Types of Artificial Intelligence
One of the methods for measuring intelligence that takes some aspects of emotional intelligence into account is the Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EQ). The EQ measures a person’s ability to understand and manage their own emotions in different social situations, read others’ emotions, and motivate themselves.
In his 2004 book, The Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, author Ronald Arkin said that “one way to view this is to consider an individual’s ability to process the emotional significance of life events and learning experiences and their impact on his or her decision making, with a resulting action.”
The EQ evaluates different aspects of an individual’s personality to determine how well he or she will be able to perform in social situations.
EQ is considered by many experts to be a better indicator of success than cognitive intelligence. The EQ test was developed in 1995 by Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and science journalist.
The EQ is one of four commonly accepted measures of general intelligence. The other three are the Five-Factor Model, the Grit Scale, and The Big Five Personality Traits. The first two measures were not designed to be used as measurements of intelligence, but the Big Five Personality Traits were.
The Big Five assess an individual’s ability to deal with emotions and how well they can be social under different circumstances. The other two tests that measure emotional intelligence were created to better incorporate emotional intelligence into the more commonly used cognitive measurements of intelligence.
The EQ was specifically designed as an alternative to the IQ. The Grit Scale was designed as a measurement of the Big Five Personality Traits.
The next type of AI that many experts believe is essential in creating human-level artificial intelligence is cognitive intelligence. Cognitive intelligence is “the capacity of an agent to act intelligently in the world.” The way the Big Five measure this type of intelligence is through the Five-Factor Model.
The Big Five measure an individual’s ability to make rational decisions. The Grit Scale was created as a measurement for the Big Five, but it also documents the level of an individual’s perseverance in pursuing long-term goals.
The third type of AI that experts believe is necessary to create human-level artificial general intelligence is natural language processing. The way the Big Five measure this type of AI is through the Big Five Personality Traits.
The reason that the Big Five are used to measure natural language processing is that they describe the personality traits associated with introversion, extroversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness.
The Big Five were created as a way to measure general intelligence, and the Big Five traits associated with the Big Five personality traits define the different types of human communication. The Big Five measures verbal and nonverbal communication, how well an individual can verbally express themselves, and how well an individual can listen to others.
The Big Five also measures an individual’s emotional intelligence and how well they can socially respond in certain situations. The Big Five can be used as a measurement for natural language processing because they assess “the capacity of an agent to act intelligently in the world” by measuring how well an individual can communicate with others.
The Big Five personality traits associated with The Big Five also define the different types of human communication. The Big Five were specifically designed to measure intelligence, but the Big Five Traits can give an AI The Big Five Personality Traits
The fourth type of AI that experts believe is necessary for creating human-level artificial intelligence is the EQ (emotional intelligence quotient).
The EQ was designed as a direct alternative to the IQ (intelligence quotient) because the EQ measures an individual’s ability to make decisions based on emotions and is considered by many experts to be the more useful measurement of success.

Theory of Mind
Theory of Mind is merely an idea for the future, not something that exists in the present.
This capability has long been thought to be one of the more challenging barriers for artificial intelligence developers. However, advances in various technologies are bringing it closer than many expected. And yet, the Theory of Mind can still be extremely misunderstood.
Capacities are commonly defined as the ability to “represent others’ mental states, that is, their knowledge, beliefs, intents, desires, and other mental states.” This involves more than just understanding words, though. Instead, it ties together a variety of different aspects into one cohesive package.
For example, it involves understanding a person’s current emotions and their most likely future actions. It is closely tied with the Theory of Content, Theory of Content involves understanding what someone knows or believes when they make a statement.
The Theory of Mind involves understanding intentions when the person appears to be lying about their stated intentions. Lastly,
This requires an understanding of the Theory of Other Minds. A Theory of Other Minds is the idea that everyone has a different view that allows them to interpret the actions and beliefs of others, while a Theory of One’s Mind involves understanding your theory of mind.
In practice, it can be difficult to differentiate from the theory of content because they are usually closely related. As previously mentioned, the theory of content involves understanding what someone knows or believes when they make a statement. For example:
Theory of Content may indicate that Bob is talking about the last time he and Joe went to the ballpark and could involve understanding that Bob was referring to Joe’s behaviour at that time because he does not have any information about Joe’s behaviour at the ballpark recently.
What is self-awareness? Theory of Mind Self-awareness is the ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate from others, being aware of one’s character, feelings, motives, and desires. Self-awareness is often associated with the psychological concept of “self,” but this is incorrect; self-awareness more accurately refers to the experience of one’s self (capital ‘S‘).
Self-awareness is a property of many different species and can be related to the ability to recognize oneself in a mirror, first described as self-recognition. Self-awareness is not well defined scientifically.
Self-awareness is believed to exist among humans, most other primates, and some dolphin species. Self-awareness theory suggests that only humans and possibly some great apes possess this quality.
Self-awareness in animals is tested through mirror self-recognition, which examines whether an animal recognises itself when presented with its reflection. Self-awareness is considered a key factor in social behaviour, along with other factors such as empathy and theory of mind (ToM).
Self Awareness Self-awareness, also called self-consciousness, is the concept of being aware of one’s existence, sensations, thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Self-awareness is a quality present in only humans and some animals.
In an argument against Descartes’ famous cogito ergo sum (I think therefore I am), Bishop George Berkeley argued that there must be an observation of the self to have an understanding of selfhood.
Self-awareness is a preoccupation with oneself, as opposed to the philosophical state of self-consciousness, which is more about being aware that one exists as a separate self apart from the rest of reality.

Narrow AI does not encompass the cognitive processes, such as memory and learning, involved in gaining knowledge from new experiences, as is done by general AI or Deep Learning. For example, narrow AIs can solve problems as long as they are limited to a certain area of expertise.
Narrow Artificial Intelligence
Narrow AI is limited to the specific task it was designed for, which may be another way of saying that its scope is narrow. Narrow AIs have been created with the capability to excel in games like chess or Go, but are unable to converse freely about concepts outside of the limitations provided by their programming.
Narrow AI is especially prevalent in today’s society, as narrow AIs are integral parts of most modern products that allow the user to interact with them. Narrow AIs are even used in manufacturing plants, where Narrow AIs replace human input with automated processes that follow pre-determined steps before moving on to another step.
